Portuguese Translation Services

Portuguese translation services by The Translation Company

The Translation Company provides Portuguese translation services to legal teams, corporations, life-science organizations, government agencies, and school districts working with Brazil, Portugal, and Portuguese-speaking communities in the United States. We have translated between English and Portuguese since 2005, in both directions, at corporate grade.

Portuguese is two commercial targets, not one. Brazilian Portuguese serves the hemisphere’s largest economy and most US community work; European Portuguese serves Portugal and much of Africa’s fast-growing lusophone markets. The two differ in spelling, vocabulary, and register, and readers notice immediately when the wrong one arrives. We staff native linguists for each and confirm the target before any work begins.

Why organizations choose us for Portuguese: a WBENC-certified women-owned company, operating to ISO 9001 and 17100 standards, corporate member of the American Translators Association, serving clients since 2005, with deep first-hand experience in Brazilian business and legal practice.

Brazilian Portuguese Translation Services

Most Portuguese demand in the United States is Brazilian: contracts and corporate documents for deals with Brazilian counterparties, HR and training content for Brazilian subsidiaries, marketing for Brazilian consumers, and personal and corporate records moving through US institutions. Our Brazilian practice runs on native Brazilian linguists, and for documents that must be filed in Brazil we coordinate sworn translations for Brazil through the tradutor juramentado system that Brazilian authorities require.

European Portuguese work, for Portugal and lusophone Africa, is staffed separately, and our guide to Portuguese varieties explains the differences. For translation direction, see Portuguese to English translation.

Portuguese Legal Translation

Law firms and corporate legal departments use our Portuguese practice for litigation and discovery documents, contracts, corporate records, and judgments moving between English and Portuguese, with certification for US courts and sworn translation for Brazilian filings. Our owner is a licensed attorney in Texas and California and a native Portuguese speaker who oversees the company’s quality standards, a combination few US providers can offer. The full practice is described under our legal translation services.

Portuguese Translation by Industry

Medical and life sciences. Clinical documentation, regulatory submissions for ANVISA and US authorities, and patient materials run through our medical translation practice; see also our dedicated page on Portuguese medical translation.

Business and finance. Financial statements, audits, investor materials, and HR content for Portuguese-speaking staff are handled by our business translation practice.

Technical and manufacturing. Manuals, specifications, and safety documentation for Brazilian operations run through our technical translation team with managed terminology.

Government and education. Portuguese appears in language-access programs and school communications for Brazilian and Cape Verdean communities; we support both under our government translation services and education translation services.

What We Translate Between English and Portuguese

Across these industries, the document types we handle most often include the following:

  • Contracts, agreements, and corporate filings
  • Litigation and discovery documents, judgments, and certificates
  • Regulatory submissions and clinical documentation
  • Financial statements, audits, and investor materials
  • User manuals and technical specifications
  • Employee handbooks, policies, and HR communications
  • Marketing content and training materials

Certified and sworn Portuguese translations. For US courts and agencies we provide certified translations with a signed statement of accuracy; for Brazilian authorities we coordinate sworn translations through registered tradutores juramentados. See certified translation services and sworn translations for Brazil.

Portuguese Interpreting

Interpreting is delivered in-house, not brokered. We provide Portuguese interpreters over the phone, by video, and on-site for depositions, negotiations, medical appointments, and public meetings, with our own simultaneous-interpreting equipment for conferences. See our interpretation services.

Portuguese Localization

Software, websites, apps, and e-learning for Brazil or Portugal localize differently: currency and date formats, payment references, tone, and the pt-BR vs. pt-PT locale split. Our localization services cover the full workflow.

Process, Quality, and the Human/MTPE Choice

Every Portuguese project runs through translation, editing, and proofreading (TEP) by separate linguists, with a project manager accountable for terminology and schedule, operating to ISO 9001 and 17100 standards. Where the content profile fits, we offer machine translation with professional post-editing (MTPE) for high-volume, lower-risk content, while contracts, filings, clinical content, and anything a court or regulator will read stays fully human, and we put that recommendation in writing before work begins.

Portuguese Translation Questions We Hear Most

Brazilian or European Portuguese: which do I need? Brazil-facing work and most US community work call for Brazilian Portuguese; Portugal and much of lusophone Africa call for European Portuguese. We assign native linguists per target and can deliver both variants from one source.

Do you provide sworn translations accepted in Brazil? Yes. Documents filed with Brazilian authorities require a tradutor juramentado, and we coordinate sworn translations through our Brazil page and network.

Are your certified Portuguese translations accepted by US courts and agencies? Yes. Certified translations include a signed statement of accuracy prepared to the receiving institution’s requirements.

Can you translate Portuguese to English for litigation? Yes. Portuguese-to-English discovery and evidence translation, with certification when required, runs through the same legal team, in both directions.

Do you provide Portuguese interpreters? Yes: over the phone, by video, and on-site, including conference settings with our own equipment.
