The American Translators Association
What is the ATA?
The ATA stands for the American Translators Association. It is a certified organization that was created to move the official translation and interpreting businesses forward. It also was established to polish the professionalism of translators and interpreters.
The American Translators Association has roughly 11,000 members in over 90 countries. The members include a variety of individuals that are involved in the official translation process.
Some of them are translators, interpreters, teachers, project managers, web and software developers, language company owners, hospitals, universities, and government agencies.
Programs, Benefits, and Support Services of ATA
There are many ways in which the ATA has proven to be beneficial. One example of this is their Annual Conference. This is the biggest ATA meeting and occurs every Fall in a major city in the United States. The conference includes:
- Educational sessions
- A job marketplace and
- Networking events
ATA also holds an annual series of seminars and mini-conferences throughout the United States to provide advanced education and training in diverse translation specialties and languages.
The American Translators Association also provides a certification exam to translators in 24 language combinations. When a translator is ATA certified, it allows them to provide documentation that they are qualified for official translation in a certain language combination.
This ensures accuracy to the client they are providing official translations for.
The ATA chapters and partners also offer local information, marketing, networking, and support services to local translators and interpreters.
Their reason for doing this is so that the ATA is better aware of the clients in which they are providing official translations too.
Along with this, the ATA offers Client Education. This means that the organization has created publications, reports, and surveys to educate clients on their translation and interpreting services.
This gives insight into what ATA represents and shows the importance of using professional translators and interpreters.
