In Portuguese, there are two types of conjunctions:
CONJUNÇÕES SUBORDINATIVAS
In this case, one of the sentences completes or determines the meaning of the other. There many subtypes of CONJUNÇÕES SUBORDINATIVAS, but let’s focus on the most common ones. Example: porque, pois, que, uma vez que, já que, como, desde que, visto que, por isso queDesde que nos mudamos para SA?o Paulo, nA?o fomos ao parque.
Fui até o consultório, visto que o médico nA?o atendia ao telefone.
Levei a cachorra passear, pois ela precisava dar uma volta.
CONJUNÇÕES COORDENATIVAS
These conjunctions establish a link between two sentences independent of each other, but which have the same grammatical function. The same thing happens with the CONJUNÇÕES COORDENATIVAS, they have fewer subtypes, but we are still focusing on the most common ones.
Example: e, nem, mas, contudo, no entanto, entretanto, porém, todavia, ou, assim, logo, portanto, por issoEle é forte e impetuoso, porém tem um coraA§A?o doce.Joana teve que trabalhar, por isso nA?o foi ao cinema.
Carlos foi ao supermercado, no entanto esqueceu sua carteira em casa.
In Portuguese, the comma can have a huge importance in a sentence. It can change the meaning of the whole. Take a look.
Vou visitar minha tia, que mora na Espanha. In this case, I have an aunt who lives in Spain .
Vou visitar minha tia que mora na Espanha. In this case, one of my aunts lives in Spain .
Another example:
O gerente que exige demais nunca está satisfeito. In this case, it is about the character of a demanding manager.
O gerente, que exige demais, nunca está satisfeito. In this case, it is about a specific manager.
Sometimes in Portuguese, we find words which SOUND almost the same in writing and speaking, they sound when speaking but they have diferent meaning. Take a look at some words used in the language and that can be confusing.

* In these particular cases, when we use QUAS in a question and at the end, we use the stress syllable. They mean exactly the same thing, but grammatically, the stress over the letter E is required.
