The mission of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia is to promote the interests of translators and interpreters and to serve the public by applying a Code of Ethics that all members are bound to comply with and by setting and maintaining high professional standards through education and certification.
The Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (S.T.I.B.C.) was incorporated in 1981. It is a non-profit professional association and an affiliate of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC), the umbrella organization for the associations of translators and interpreters in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Qu?bec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Yukon and Nunavut. CTTIC is a member of the FIT (F?d?ration Internationale des Traducteurs).
The goals of the S.T.I.B.C. are to promote the interests of translators and interpreters in British Columbia and to serve the public by providing both a Code of Ethics that members of the S.T.I.B.C. agree to observe and a system of certification for translators and interpreters. Our Certified professionals benefit from occupational title protection in British Columbia.
