The city of Frisco in Texas is located in the center of the United States in the Denton and Collin Counties. Unlike other surrounding cities, Frisco adopted a different economic policy and chose to use some percent of its local sales tax to fund the FEDC (Frisco Economic Development Corporation) instead of DART, which is the regional transportation unit. The FEDC was founded in the year 1991, when voters in Frisco approved a sales tax of half-cent in order to fund economic development in Frisco. FEDC primarily focuses on reallocating tax dollars to commercial enterprises. However, the efficacy of the FEDC is debatable.
Frisco is known for building the Frisco Square, which is a mixed-use expansion unit that soon became a new city center. The Frisco Square encompasses roughly around 250 rental residential units and seven restaurants. Plus, it also has nearly 40,000 square feet of commercial office space, along with some personal service sites. There is also the New City Hall, a public commons, and main library. According to the stats of the Economic Development Corp., Frisco attracts over 5 million visitors per year, along with the group meetings and conferences that add over $70 million per year to the economy of the city.
