About the Program
Program Description
The Associate of Applied Science in Technical Spanish / Translation and Interpretation prepares graduates to translate and interpret from Spanishand English and vice versa.
The goal of the Technical Spanish – Translation/Interpretation program is to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and necessary tools to connect the Spanish-speaking community and the health care, business, legal andlaw enforcement fields.
Graduates find jobs interpreting and translating in public and private sector organizations, such as hospitals, courts, businesses, government departments or as independent contractors. The public is served better by having more qualifiedinterpreters in the field. For example, police officers and hospital workers benefit from being able to work without having to wait for interpreters to be found to help with clients/patients.

Editor notes
Training in written and oral transfer skills is covered, including sight translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and technology for translators. There are also programs with emphasis on legal or health care translations. Onedisadvantage of the program is that there are no courses on Spanish literature or culture, and no linguistics either.
