Assessments and the limits of translation

Translating a test is not as simple as translating its words, and we are upfront about that. A direct translation can change a question’s difficulty or accidentally give away an answer, so assessments often need careful adaptation rather than literal translation, and some items may need to be flagged or reworked to stay valid. We translate assessments with that awareness and tell you where adaptation is the better choice, so the results still measure what you intend.

A material that assumes one cultural context can confuse a student from another, so we adapt where it helps learning. Examples, names, idioms, and references are adjusted so they are familiar and inclusive, without changing the academic content or the learning objective.
